Can’t attack! Island owner is online.
« on: Nov 06, 2018, 08:26 PM »
I just don’t believe it! Anyone else feel the way I do? All too often I’m waiting for a pvp to spawn, so when I check and see I’ve spawned one it’s a little exciting. Only to be disappointed to see they are on line. Then I go back a few minutes later and 99% of the time they are now off line. I just don’t believe they were ever online to begin with. I’m also about 99% sure sc has some code that says they are on line for a few minutes. The only reason I can come up with why sc would do such a thing is because they think it’s funny and just like to jerk my chain.  >:(

I find 90% of new spawns are online - maybe SC do it to slow down your attacks (and it's probably 100% online when they appear but a few are logged off by the time you click attack)
Very few I can attack straight away, some I may be able to attack 10 mins later (they could be just logging on to check stuff) and then there are others who I can't attack for an hour or more.

As this thread was created the fake online message was again received and as I logged back in, off course he was offline. It’s just a minor irritation and at least I know to just return a minute later. lol

I suggested back on my first post on the old forum that players populate the match making selection table when they log in.
There is therefore a higher chance that when they spawn on your map they are online.
Nothing I have seen since has altered my way of thinking on that, just reinforced it.

Edit to explain further
Imagine a table for match making selection
When a player logs in they go to the top of the table
The match making algorithm selects randomly from say the first 30% of the table (just for example but it would be a bit more refined)
As more players log on that original player gets pushed down the table until they are not in the selection range.
In that first 30% it is possible to get someone who just logged on to get resource boats or check if they have a new spawn then log off so you will get offline players on occasion but most of them will be online.

It seemed to me that the frequency of this phenomenon increased dramatically after the Matchmaking changes were made in response to Major DeCoverly’s research on spawn rates of LB chasers.  I have noted this on both my 600 VP account and my account that is over 1200 vp.

I have assumed it was related to those (undisclosed) MM changes, something along the lines of matching to people who are currently online or have been online very recently.

I often have 1-3 players online when I'm trying to clear them. It seems to happen more frequently as my vp rises (approaching 1200). They don't seem to be the most recently spawned ones though. Usually I can see that they're boosted so they're obviously playing. Or the last 2 Mondays I kept checking back on a few who kept switching their maps around for Hammerman.

Ordinarily, people are just checking in and log off within a few minutes. Sometimes they're clearing and I have to wait them out and keep checking for an hour or more. Luckily most log off and on and don't stay on trying to protect useless resources. What gets me is that it happens no matter what time or day or night I'm there. That's just the way it is I suppose. There will always be conflict with people somewhere in the world trying to attack at the same time.

I do consider it a minor irritant sometimes when I just want to finish and be done with my attacking and have to wait on that one person. It's no longer a strategic question of attaining or protecting the resources among maxed players. They probably could just tweak it somehow to reduce these incidences if it weren't for the LBs. I'm not concerned about it. But how PVP and MM will ultimately work on the new stuff will be interesting since I'm unfamiliar with the other games.

I believe Crow is correct. The more often you log into the game, the more active you are, the more you get re-shuffled into the top of the matchmaking system, and the more often you spawn players who are online.

It is an irritating mechanism of the game. I don’t care if they attack or raid me, just let me play the stupid game. Why make me wait or log off to do something else? lol

Yes, after maxing there's really no point.
